Descripción/Description:

The Dublin Institute of Advanced Studies (DIAS) is offering a PhD studentship to work primarily in the area of star and planet formation. This project is funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) through an SFI Starting Investigator Research Grant and will involve the use of IR interferometric data from VLTI-GRAVITY and -MATISSE, on the ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT).The data pool obtained will also serve to develop a statistical imaging reconstruction method for geo-stationary satellite imaging.

The student will join a vibrant group working with JWST, near-infrared and radio interferometry and with a strong background in astrophysical simulations. He/she is expected to register in Trinity College Dublin and will be co-supervised by Professor Tom Ray and Dr. Rebeca Garcia Lopez. Requirements: applicants need to have gained a first class or upper second honors degree (or equivalent) or a master's degree in an appropriate subject e.g. astronomy or physics. A good command of English, to at least IELTS level 6.5, is also required for international applicants. The successful student will be expected to start on 1st October 2019.
For additional information regarding the research topic, please contact Dr. Rebeca Garcia Lopez (rgarcia@cp.dias.ie) or, if you have a question regarding the terms and conditions of the studentship, Eileen Flood (eflood@cp.dias.ie). Applicants should include the following documents with their application: degree certificates (where available) and transcript of records, a brief description of their research interests and experience, along with the names and contact details of two referees who can be approached for letters of recommendation. Completed applications should be sent directly to Eileen Flood (eflood@cp.dias.ie) and those submitted by Friday 10th May 2019 will receive our full consideration.

DIAS is an equal opportunity employer.

Included Benefits: Studentships will be awarded for a total of four years, of which the first year is probationary, and will cover all university fees, the cost of a laptop, travel to conferences, etc., and a tax-free maintenance allowance of €18,500 p.a.
