Descripción/Description:

The High Energy Physics Group (GAE) of the Complutense University of madrid (UCM) is seeking a highly motivated candidate to undertake a doctoral thesis in astroparticle physics, offering an exciting opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research within a leading international collaboration.

Specializing in experimental astroparticle physics and high-energy astrophysics, our group focuses on developing advanced data analysis software using Machine Learning techniques and ultra-fast electronics for trigger and Data Acquisition systems. Our research interests encompass gamma-ray pulsars, active galactic nuclei, and the search for dark matter. As active members of the CTA (Cherenkov Telescope Array) and MAGIC collaborations, we contribute significantly to both the software and hardware of these gamma-ray telescopes. We are also involved in scientific exploitation of the Fermi - Large Area Telescope. Currently, our group comprises 12 senior researchers, doctoral students, and young researchers from diverse nationalities.

The selected candidate will join the CTA Collaboration, contributing to the development of an advanced next-generation camera for the 23-meter Large Size Telescopes of CTA. This camera will incorporate silicon photosensors and artificial intelligence-based data acquisition electronics. Additionally, the candidate will play a crucial role in analyzing and interpreting the first observations carried out with CTA-North. This position offers a unique opportunity to make significant contributions to pioneering research in astroparticle physics.

Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in Physics, Astrophysics, or a closely related field. Interested candidates should submit a detailed CV, academic transcripts, and contact information for at least one referee to info@gae.ucm.es by July 15th. Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) values diversity and inclusivity in its academic community and encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
