Descripción/Description:
The IAC (Tenerife) announces ONE postdoctoral contract to work on the project linked to the line of research “Traces of Galaxy Formation: Spectrophotometry of Milky Way-like Galaxies and their Satellites”. The contract is funded by the project “COordinating BEARD: The Challenge of Milky Way-like Galaxies to the Cold Dark Matter Paradigm” (Ref. PID2021-128131NB-I00), led by Dr. Adriana de Lorenzo-Cáceres and Dr. Jairo Méndez Abreu.
Tasks: The successful candidate will pursue research in the following fields:
- Analysis of photometry and multi-object spectroscopy of satellites around Milky Way-like galaxies in order to quantify their spatial distribution.
- Analysis of integral field spectroscopic data to derive the star formation histories of a statistical significant sample of Milky Way-like galaxies.
- Use of new spectrophotometric techniques to separate spectroscopically galaxy structures (bulges, discs, and bars) in integral field data.
Particular attention will be given to applicants with experience in the field of spectroscopic analysis of nearby galaxies.
Application deadline: JANUARY 31, 2023
