Descripción/Description:
The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and the Institute for Applied Computing and Community Code (IAC3) in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, invite applications for a postdoctoral position focused on three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) modeling of solar prominences and their interaction with coronal jets.
The successful candidate will work on studying the interaction between quiescent solar prominences and coronal jets generated by magnetic reconnection events occurring near prominence footpoints. The goal is to understand the conditions under which coronal jets significantly impact solar prominences, as this interaction can induce oscillations or even destabilize the structures, a process with significant energetic implications for solar dynamics.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Astrophysics, or a closely related field and have between one and four years of postdoctoral experience. A strong background in solar physics and experience with advanced 3D MHD simulations using state-of-the-art computational codes is highly desirable. The selected candidate will receive a one-year contract, which may be extended for an additional year based on successful evaluation. The anticipated start date is January 13, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position will be supervised by Dr. Manuel Luna at the new offices of the Institute for Applied Computing and Community Code (https://iac3.uib.es/). Applications should be submitted by November 22, 2024, through the following application link (https://seu.uib.cat/es/tablon?path=anuncio/3402/). For further information about the position, it is recommended, to contact Dr. Manuel Luna (manuel.luna@uib.es).
