Descripción/Description:
The Cosmology Research Group of the CIEMAT-FP Unit (Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas) announces the opening of a predoctoral position for outstanding Msc graduates interested in working in obervational cosmology with the goal of obtaining a PhD Thesis.
The 4-year PhD contract is funded by CIEMAT. The official call will be announced at http://cfp.ciemat.es/predoc.
The Cosmology Group at CIEMAT participates in several ongoing international galaxy surveys with the aim of pinning down the nature of the dark energy: DESI (htts://www.desi.lbl.gov), LSST (https://lsstdesc.org/) and the Euclid Mission (https://www.euclid-ec.org/). The PhD student will be expected to work with the huge datasets of these projects, analysing them to test cosmological models and understand the physical nature of the dark energy through its influence in the large-scale structure of the Universe. We also encourage new ideas and directions that our students can pursue.
We seek candidates with a Master’s Degree in Physics at the time of the appointment. The main considerations for selection are excellent grades, very good English knowledge and a strong training in cosmology. Research and programming experience will be valued. A background in Astrophysics and/or Fundamental Physics is desirable as well.
We offer close supervision by CIEMAT members of DESI, LSST and Euclid collaborations and a stimulating international environment with expected research stays in international institutions and laboratories, presentation of results at meetings and conferences and direct participation in the data taking. The results of this research should be published in reference journals.
