School Aims and Content

ERIS aims to provide a complete overview of radio interferometry covering fundamentals, data
processing, and analysis techniques, along with practical hands-on sessions. The following topics
will be covered in the lectures and tutorials:

  • Calibration and imaging of interferometry data (continuum, spectral line, and polarization)
  • Observational techniques using various arrays (e.g., LOFAR, e-MERLIN, EVN/VLBI, ALMA &
  • NOEMA)
  • Strategies for observation planning and proposal writing
  • Advanced tutorials. Participants will select one tutorial from the options provided, with a dedicated practical session for their chosen topic.

Participants are expected to bring their own laptops, equipped with a recent CASA installation
(version 6, more information to come). Examples and tutorials will focus on instruments operating
at m-, cm-, and mm-wave frequencies such as LOFAR, the JVLA, the EVN, e-MERLIN, and
ALMA.

Venue and Accommodation

The meeting will take place at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía headquarters (IAA-CSIC),
Glorieta de la Astronomía s/n, 18008 Granada. The IAA-CSIC is located 15 minutes walk from the
city centre, and can be reached by bus lines S2, S0, 11 and 9.

The participants and lecturers will be accommodated in the Hotel Monasterio de los Basilios,
included in the registration fee. Reservations will be managed by the LOC and participants will be
sharing double/triple rooms.

Registration

The registration fee is 225 EUR. It will cover the accommodation and half board for the 5 days of
the school, from the arrival on Sunday 29 September 2024 to the departure on Friday 4 October
2024. It will also cover coffee breaks, a welcome cocktail, the school dinner and a visit to IRAM
30-m telescope
.

Please register via the ERIS2024 website. Note that due to logistical limitations, we will be able to
accommodate a maximum of 80 participants, so we encourage you to register as soon as possible.
The deadline for registration is 10 May 2024. Candidates will be informed about acceptance
before the end of May. Registration fee payment deadline will be 21 June 2024.

The school is co-organised by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC) and JIVE-Joint
Institute for VLBI ERIC. This school is sponsored by the OPTICON-RadioNET Pilot project and
the IAA-CSIC Severo Ochoa training program.
