Descripción/Description:
The IAC research group “Galaxy evolution in the Local Group” announces two postdoctoral contracts within the project “At the forefront of Galactic Archaeology: evolution of the luminous and dark matter components of the Milky Way and Local Group dwarf galaxies in the Gaia Era”, funded by Spanish Agencia Estatal de Investigación, and led by Dr. Giuseppina Battaglia and Dr. Carme Gallart.
Postdoc 1: Depending on the experience of the successful candidate, he/she will pursue research in one of the following fields:
- Dynamical modeling and mass determinations of Local Group dwarf galaxies.
- Analysis of the kinematic and chemical properties of stars in Local Group dwarf galaxies.
- Analysis of the kinematic and chemical properties of stars in the Milky Way halo and discs.
Particular attention will be given to applicants with experience in the field of dynamical modeling of galactic systems and in the exploitation of large spectroscopic data-sets of resolved stars. Experience in machine learning will be favourably considered.
The expected duration of this contract is 18 months, with possible renewal subject to availability of funding. It is estimated that the date of commencement will be no later than April 2023. Application deadline: 31st January 2023. For further information about the scientific aspects of this opening, please contact Dr. Giuseppina Battaglia (gbattaglia at iac.es). Postdoc 2: The successful candidate will pursue research on the study the spatial variations of the Milky Way disk star formation history in the extended solar neighborhood, using data from Gaia DR3 complemented with data from spectroscopic surveys. Particular attention will be given to applicants with previous experience in Galactic Archaeology.
The expected duration of this contract is 12 months, with possible renewal subject to availability of funding. The date of commencement will be no later than August 2023. Application deadline: 15th April 2023. For further information about the scientific aspects of this opening, please contact Dr. Carme Gallart (carme.gallart at iac.es).
