Descripción/Description:
Euclid is a middle-class space mission being implemented by the European Space Agency (ESA). The mission is expected to be launched in 2023. Euclid is a cosmology mission trying to unveil the nature of dark energy. It will carry out a survey of 15000 deg2 of the sky, measuring the shapes of billions of galaxies to study their weak lensing distortions and measuring the redshift of tens of thousands of galaxies to study their clustering properties.
The Observational Cosmology group of the Space Science Institute in Barcelona (ICE-CSIC, IEEC) is seeking a motivated person to work in OU-SIM, the organisation unit of the Euclid Science Ground Segment responsible for producing the pixel simulations for the mission.
We offer a full time position to work in the development, production and validation of simulated data for the Scientific Ground Segment of ESA’s Euclid mission.
The candidate will work with Francisco Castander and other members of the group (E. Gaztañaga, P. Fosalba, M. Crocce) with close interaction with the Port d’Informació Científica (PIC) which is Euclid’s Science Data Centre in Spain. We are seeking an experienced candidate to work in OU-SIM.
The position contract is currently offered for one year but can be extended based on performance and depending on available funding.
The position will be filled as soon as possible after the deadline for applications and ideally during February-March 2022.
The position will be held at IEEC, ICE-CSIC, located at the UAB campus in Bellaterra, Barcelona, Spain.
The candidate should have extensive experience programming in python, in software management, git; an academic degree at the level of BSc; fluent knowledge of English, both written and spoken; coordination skills and experience managing groups. Other selection criteria would be: experience in other programming languages, work with databases, experience leading software development, familiarity with cosmological simulations and simulations of astronomical images, previous experience in ESA projects and in large cosmological collaborations, experience in reduction, calibration and analysis of astronomical data, a higher degree of education (PhD level).
Please, contact Francisco Castander (fjc@ieec.cat) for enquiries about this position. Applications should contain a CV, where the fulfillment of the selection criteria should be assessed, and a statement of professional/scientific interests. Letters of recommendation can also be sent to the above e-mail address. The documentation should be sent to fjc@ieec.cat before January 21st, 2022.
