Descripción/Description:
We are looking for a researcher with experience in the use of dilution refrigerators for the development of quantum sensors. Specific applications include the cooling and testing of superconducting detectors, such as KIDs (Kinetic Inductance Detectors) or TES (Transition Edge Sensors). Experience in the development of CMB experiments will also be appreciated. The selected candidate will collaborate in the preparation activities for the acquisition of a dilution refrigerator for experimental developments in the fields of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and/or dark matter searches. The tasks assigned to the contract are the following: - Determine the specifications of a dilution refrigerator to cool superconducting materials for experimental applications, including the CMB and dark matter searches. More specifically, determination of dimensions, size of the cold cavity, cooling power, temperature of the cold finger, ... - Establish the actions required at the IFCA laboratories for an optimal installation and operation of a dilution refrigerator. - Study the implementation of a flexible (in terms of sensors and electronic options) temperature monitoring and control system for the different cryogenic stages. - Collaborate in the acquisition process of the cryostat, helping with the preparation of all the documentation. The selected candidate will be funded by the IFCA María de Maeztu project of reference MdM-2017-0765 and will start from September 1st asap after that date. The initial period of the contract will be of approximately one year with the possibility of extensions depending on the availability of financial resources. The salary will depend on the academic level (Doctor or Graduate) and experience and will be in the interval between “CSIC Titulado Superior FC2” and “CSIC Doctor FC2”. The activities associated to the contract will be performed at the Instituto de Física de Cantabria (CSIC-UC). Stays in other research centers and visits to companies are also envisaged.
