Descripción/Description:

This pre-doctoral contract for four years is associated to the project PID2019-109067GB-I00 “GALAXIAS EN 3D Y SUS PROPIEDADES INTEGRADAS: SINERGIA ENTRE J-PAS/J-PLUS E IFS SURVEYS” (PI. Rosa González Delgado, Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (CSIC).

The project deals with galaxy evolution studies by analyzing five different galaxy samples that are located in the nearby Universe (distance < 15 Mpc) and up to cosmological distances at z < 1. The data are from the multi-bands panoramic surveys, and the integral field spectroscopy survey. The spatially-resolved star formation histories (SFH) of galaxies at z <0.1 and the integrated SFH for far-away galaxies, and their corresponding 2D and 1D stellar populations and ionized gas properties are retrieved, to search for the role that environment plays in the “born, life and death” of galaxies, and their components. This project will be carried out under the umbrella of different international surveys: J-PAS, J-PLUS, WEAVE and CAVITY. The four surveys have born to be legacy projects, and their first goal is the dissemination of the calibrated data to the international community.

The PhD candidate will deal with the analysis of IFS data from WEAVE-Apertif and CAVITY surveys that are carrying out at the Observatorio Roque de los Muchachos and Calar Alto. The main objective is to study the role that the environment plays in the star formation in discs and bulges. The PhD candidate will perform spatially resolved analysis combining the surface stellar mass density, intensity of the star formation rate, specific star formation, ages, extinction and metallicity from the LIFU with the HI density to study the quenching of the star formation rate along the main sequence, study the connection with the HI content and morphology and investigate the secular evolution process in disks, and outer parts of the disks. Another important aspect is the relation between gas and optical extinction.

The PhD will be supervised by Rosa González Delgado (rosa@iaa.es) and Ruben García Benito (rgb@iaa.es) at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (Granada), and within the international collaborations WEAVE/APERTIF and CAVITY.
