Job Announcement Text:

The Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Toledo (UT) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in astronomy/astrophysics, commencing August, 2019. We are seeking someone with a strong track record of research accomplishment in any area of astrophysics, observational or theoretical.  We welcome applicants with additional strengths in education and public outreach. A PhD in astronomy, physics, or a closely related field is required, and postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active, independent, externally-funded research program. An established history of external funding support would be valuable. Excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level is expected, and candidates should plan to involve graduate and undergraduate students in their research program.

Our astronomy and astrophysics group consists of 8 faculty, approximately 15 graduate students and several postdocs.  Current research expertise in the department includes galaxy evolution, galactic/extra-galactic star formation, black hole fueling and feedback, stellar clusters, ultracool stars and exoplanets, planet formation and circumstellar disks, origin of elements, massive star evolution and stellar winds, and dust astrophysics. The in-house Ritter Planetarium is a major outreach venue that offers a variety of programs to more than twenty-thousand visitors per year. The newly renovated Ritter 1m telescope is actively used for student training and long-term research. UT is a partner in the 4.3m Discovery Channel Telescope (DCT), and we encourage applicants with research programs that could exploit our dedicated DCT access.

Complete applications should be submitted to the Job Posting Website.  The application should include: (i) a cover letter, (ii) curriculum vitae, (iii) a research plan (3 pages maximum), and (iv) a teaching statement (2 pages maximum). Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent by the deadline to: astrosearch@utoledo.edu. For full consideration, applications should be received by November 30, 2018.

The University of Toledo is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and values equality of opportunity, human dignity and diversity.  Women and members of minority groups that are under-represented in academia are especially encouraged to apply.
