Descripción/Description:
IAA-CSIC is seeking a Doctor in Physics or Astrophysics, with experience in very long base interferometry, especially at millimeter wavelengths, and in the use of algorithms for the reconstruction of interferometric images, including the modeling of interferometric visibilities. Training in black hole physics, relativistic jets, and active nuclei of galaxies in general will be positively valued, as well as previous experience in instrumental development, particularly in antenna receivers.
Main tasks will include:
- Reduction and analysis of very long base interferometric observations obtained with the Event Horizon Telescope and other interferometric arrays operating at millimeter wavelengths and with antennas in space. These include adjustment of the interferometric bands and data quality control, as well as calibration of the instrumental polarization.
- Reconstruction of interferometric images using different deconvolution and maximum entropy algorithms.
- Modeling of interferometric visibilities through MCMC (Markov chain Monte Carlo) algorithms.
- Interpretation of the results in the context of black hole physics, relativistic jets, and active galactic nuclei, and their publication.
The contract is for 2 years and can be extended for one more year.
