Descripción/Description:

IAA-CSIC offers a predoc contract in the framework of the Project “Severo Ochoa”. Candidates are expected to carry out their activity in the field of galaxy evolution and cosmology.

Supervisor: Isabel Márquez (isabel@iaa.es).

Tasks:

As a step further for a deeper understanding of the impact of outflows on the host galaxies, an additional key ingredient is required: the effect of jets in the central kpc, that are usually detected in radio contiuum images of LINERs. The relation between the ionized gas and radio jets as source of powering outflows is being studied in radio-loud AGNs and nearby AGNs, mostly Seyferts. We propose to proceed with a detailed, comparative study of the connections between the morphology of the ionized gas and that of the radio continuum emission tracing the jet, for a sample of about half a hundred LINERs. The sample comprises all those LINERs in the Hα catalogue, since most of them that have radio-continuum imaging at arcsec spatial resolution (for the <10 remaining, we plan to request the required data with e-Merlin). For those with 3D spectroscopic data, diagnostic diagrams will be used together with the information at radio frequencies to put constraints on the importance and impact of shocks in the host galaxy.
The data gathering will be done during the first two years, both archival and proprietary. This will be complemented by the study of previous works, with a thorough revision of the bibliography. Next, several publications will show the results for the whole sample, and some specific works for the LINERs for which the 3D kinematics is also available.
