The "Athena X-ray Advances series: ACO Science Webinars" will be resumed on the 22nd of February at the usual time interval from 15 to 16 CET.
Veronica Biffi (INAF - Osservatorio Astronomico di Trieste) will give the webinar entitled: Athena's view of a galaxy cluster major merger.
Abstract: the high spectral resolution and large effective area of the Athena/XIFU will allow us to reconstruct in great detail the gas velocity field in galaxy clusters, not only in bright central regions but in fainter ones as well. We investigate this possibility in our recent paper based on mock Athena observations of hydrodynamical simulations of merging galaxy clusters. Athena/XIFU proves to be an excellent instrument to dissect the velocity structure of the intra-cluster medium in complex systems, even in the case of multiple velocity components.
